Sevilla Jean Johnson, 71, of Evarts departed this life on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard.  Born April 23, 1954, she was a lifelong resident of Harlan County.  Jean retired from the Harlan App. Reg. Hospital Medical Records Department after 43 ½ years of service.  She attended the Jones Creek Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed the beach and working puzzle books, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Howard and Susie Ella Middleton Howard; three sisters, Debra Lynn Howard, Steffa "Cricket" Skidmore, and Gail Blevins; and a brother, Samuel "Spade" Howard.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Randy Johnson, Evarts; two children, Kyle Johnson and wife, Holly, and Kayla Johnson, all of Evarts; two sisters, Jowanna Howard and Valerie Howard, both of Jones Creek; and a brother, Jamie Howard and wife, Jennifer, Greenfield, IN.  Also surviving are her three grandsons, Colby Johnson, Daven Johnson and Gabe Slusher; her best friend and sidekick, Janie Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 4 until 7 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin in the Chapel at 7 pm with the Reverend Butch Clem and the Reverend Ralph Whitaker officiating.

Her burial will be held Friday at 1 PM at the Resthaven Cemetery with her family and friends serving as pallbearers.
