Sharon Yvette Smith, 69, of Dizney departed this life on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born on November 26, 1953 in Harlan County and had lived here most of her life.  She retired after 26 years of service as a bookkeeper for the Harlan County Board of Education.  She believed in the Church of God faith and enjoyed reading her Bible, watching old westerns on television and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Maples and Merle Stacy Maples; a sister, Brenda Blevins; and a great-grandchild, Baby Napier.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years and the love of her life, Robert Wayne Smith, Dizney; three children, Eugene Napier, Jr. and wife, Renaee, Evarts; Brian Napier and wife, Ashleigh, Speedwell, TN; and April Napier, Maryville, TN; two step-children, Kenneth Joe Smith and wife, Melissa, River Ridge; and Samuel Jason Smith, Arizona; two sisters, Sandra Kelly and husband, Jim, Maryville, TN; and Donna Pace and husband, Tommy, Coalgood; and a brother, Mark Maples, Evarts.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Seth Napier, Cobrinna Napier Howard and husband, Jordan, Collier and Julien Gorkisch, Nickie and Jacob Smith, Seth Lonas, MacKenzie Gailey Longworth, Journey Longworth and Isaac Longworth; one great-granddaughter, Annie Smith; a great-nephew that was like a grandson to her, Cayde Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Her visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 1 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Kenneth Ray Smith, the Reverend Ralph Whitaker and the Reverend Seth Napier officiating.

Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery with her family and friends serving as pallbearers.
