Sharon Gale Sergent Sturgill, 75, of Evarts went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 14, 2023, following a short illness.  She was born on May 25, 1948 in Harlan County and was a graduate of Evarts High School.  Following her graduation she moved to Chicago and had worked in the manufacturing industry for Kerr Manufacturing.  Upon retirement, she and her husband, Roger, returned to Evarts where she has lived for the past 20 years.  She was a faithful member of the Victory Baptist Church where she had taught the Ladies Sunday School Class.  She loved the Lord and her church family.  She was also a very talented poet.

Gale is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Sturgill; her parents, Reverend Paul Cornett and Pauline Begley Cornett; and a brother, Larry W. Cornett.

She is survived by three sons, Roger D. Sturgill and wife, Christine, Chicago, IL; Paul Sturgill and wife, Eloisa, Plainfield, IL; and Aaron Sturgill and wife, Lisa, Schererville, IN; three sisters, Anola Roney and husband, Rob, Somerset; Paula Brewer, Evarts; Gina Lane and husband, Charles, Athens, WV; three brothers, Mark Cornett and wife, Pat, Holmes Mill; Zendell Cornett and wife, Janet, Covington; and Jody Cornett and wife, Patty, Terre Haute, IN; and a sister-in-law, Betty Cornett, Lejunior.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Seth (Anastasia) Sturgill, Molly (Luke) Miller, Eden Sturgill, Amanda Sturgill, Todd Sturgill, Rachel Sturgill, Kyle Sturgill, Devyn Sturgill, Andrew Sturgill, Lee Sturgill and Alexander Allen; three great-grandchildren, Sean, Mason and James; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Her visitation will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Victory Baptist Church in Evarts beginning at 5 pm with funeral services to follow at 7 pm.  Pastor Rodney Freeman and Associate Pastor William Kelly will officiate.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Evarts Memorial Gardens.
