Obituary

Sherese Michelle Baskin Ellison peacefully transitioned to her eternal home with her Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2025, while at her daughter's home in Lexington, Kentucky. She was fifty-three years old.

One of three children born to Sanford III and Anncella Elaine (Kyle) Baskin on June 4, 1971, in Harlan County, 'Reese', as she was known to many, was the eldest sister to Shereka Baskin and the late Sanford Baskin IV. She was always a quiet, reserved child. She graduated from Cumberland High School where she played basketball and also played the clarinet in the band.

Reese attended Cumberland College but stepped away from college life to marry Rance Ellison, Sr, in November 1990. They were together for twelve years. One of her greatest blessings was becoming a mother to her two children, Jasmine and Rance, Jr., whom she adored. She obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from Midway College and earned several certifications from the University of Kentucky. Her most recent certification was School Finance Manager which she received in April 2024 from UK.

Reese and her family moved to Lexington in 1995 and she was hired by the Fayette County Public School system to work in their finance department. Sherese, as she was addressed at her workplace, had an impeccable work ethic, was extremely knowledgeable in her field of expertise, and was always found to be smiling and willing to offer assistance to anyone in need. Every year for twenty years, she trained 50-60 bookkeepers at each of the twenty-four schools within the FC Public system. She was promoted to the financial budgeting department as a budget/staffing analyst, where she worked for two years before her illness caused her to step away from her beloved job. Sherese invested her heart, soul, and untold hours to her Fayette County Public School family. Her job was her life.  Being organized, meticulous, and a perfectionist served her well as she served her work family.

Reese was a quiet, reserved Lady's lady, who didn't mess around. No one was ever able to get the upper hand on her. She was strong, stern, yet loving, and caring. A wonderful provider and a most excellent gift giver, she had a wonderful heart and always made sure everyone had what they needed. Reese loved watching football and was especially passionate about the Pittsburg Steelers, as well as her favorite college team, Alabama. Many trips were taken to cheer on her Steelers. Other trips were made to attend concerts of her favorite musical group, New Edition. One might even call her a NE4-Lifer or a die-hard New Edition groupie. She, her sister, and best friend would attend as many concerts as they could, always on the lookout for the next concert location.

As a youngster, Reese was baptized into the membership of the family of God at the Rising Star Baptist Church in Benham, KY. Once she moved to Lexington, she made the Bethsaida Baptist Church her home, where she served on the Usher Board, a ministry she thoroughly enjoyed.

Reese was a precious mother, a treasured sister, a much-loved daughter, and a cherished friend whose absence leaves a void in the heart of all who were privileged to know and love her.

Services for Reese will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Lynch, KY. There will be no visitation. Her funeral will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor Ronnie Hampton officiating. Burial will take place at Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
