Mr. Thomas Edward Shepherd, age 75, of Cumberland, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, following an ATV accident.

Tom, the second of three children, was born on January 11, 1949, in Lynch, KY, to Charles and Fannie (Creech) Shepherd. He grew up in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School. Following graduation, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Lucille Powell, and then enlisted in the United States Army. During his six years of service, he spent one of those years in Vietnam, where he was an auto mechanic. He received several medals and commendations for "exceptional or meritorious service or acts of heroism".

After Tom was honorably discharged from the Army, he took a job as a coal miner. He worked for Scotia Mines and U.S. Steel/Arch mining company until he retired 25 + years later. Once retired, Tom enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors in the mountains he loved, the land he grew up exploring. He enjoyed hunting squirrel and deer, fishing, and tinkering on motors. A very quiet and private man, Tom had a small circle of close friends, with whom he enjoyed spending time. He was a tall, burly man who could easily lift one off the ground when giving one of his wonderful bear hugs. Tom's absence will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Audrey Shepherd, and both of his siblings: Carol Hill and Charles Leon Shepherd.

Left to cherish Tom's memory include his son, Mike Shepherd and wife, Robin, of Harrodsburg, KY; a daughter, Angela Maria Harden and husband, Phillip; four grandchildren: Taylor Mechelle, Abigail Sarah Brianna, James Logan, and Jaxon Reid; a host of extended relatives; his small circle of good buddies; and many friends.

Services for Tom will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in the chapel of Tri City Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 with the funeral beginning at 1:00. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in the Jacob Creech Cemetery, Cumberland. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
