Mr. Vernon Bennett, age 69, of Harlan, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 04, 2023, at the Tri-Cities Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cumberland, KY.

One of fourteen children, Vernon was born on January 28, 1954, in Harlan to Ben and Evelyn Hembree Bennett and had lived in this area for most of his life. He married Billie Jean Harris and they had three children. Vernon was a coal miner for many years. He was a talented mechanic and loved working on anything with an engine. He could fix any problem on any vehicle and he was the 'go-to' guy for any automotive needs for his family and friends. Vernon enjoyed 4-wheeling, fishing, being outdoors, and doing all of those things with his grandchildren. He was a quiet and generous man, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled and he will be missed by many.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Harris Bennett; his parents, Ben and Evelyn Bennett; and most of his siblings.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: daughter, Angela Taylor and husband, of Harlan, KY, daughter, Kimberly Johnson and husband, of Loyall, KY, son, Vernon Michael Bennett of Evarts, KY; five grandchildren: Montana Taylor of Richmond, Tiffany Taylor of Harlan, Corey Risner of Wallins, Tyler Risner of Teetersville, Laci Ann Risner of Loyall; five great-grandchildren: Maverick, Hazel, Jacelynn, Knoxx, Paxton; several siblings, a host of extended relatives and many dear friends.

Services for Mr. Vernon Bennett will be held at the Harlan Funeral Home on Monday, May 8, 2023. Visitation will be from 11:00am – 1:00pm with the funeral beginning at 1:00. Reverend Woody Fields will be officiating. Mr. Vernon will be laid to rest at the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
