Virgie Patterson Smallwood, 95, of Lafollette, TN, formerly of Harlan County, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Cumberland Village Genesis Healthcare Nursing Home in Lafollette, TN. She was born on April 22, 1930 in Knox County, KY to the late Floyd Patterson and Dora Jackson Patterson. Virgie enjoyed working with her flowerbeds and hanging baskets, working in the yard, sewing, her quilts, but she especially loved her family. Virgie was a homemaker and believed in the Holiness faith.

In additions to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Smallwood, Sr.; five sons, Hillary Buddy Smallwood, Billy Ray Smallwood, Jack Smallwood, Tony Smallwood and Elisha Smallwood, Jr.; and one daughter, Wilma Jean Smallwood.

Virgie is survived by six children, Alice Marie England, Molus; Nadine Saylor, Loyall; Floyd Smallwood, Cincinnati, OH; Vicky King, Lafollette, TN; Ross Smallwood and wife, Ginger, Lafollette, TN; and Kathy Smallwood, Harrogate, TN. Also surviving are several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the chapel of the Loyall Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 12 noon with the Reverend James Earl Hensley officiating.

Burial will be in the Harlan County Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
