Walter "Walt" Lawrence Wynn, Sr., 55, of Jonesville, Virginia, formerly of Jones Creek, departed this life on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.  Born May 17, 1970, Walt had lived here until moving to Virginia four years ago.  He was a retired coal miner with 28 years of experience at various mines in Harlan County.  Walt enjoyed cooking, coon hunting, working with heavy equipment and sitting on his porch, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Wynn and Betty Jo Napier Wynn; three brothers, Timothy, Jason and Scottie "Buck" Wynn; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, the Reverend George and Sharol Pace; and a brother-in-law, Preston Stewart.

Survivors include his wife of over 36 years, Lisa Pace Wynn, Jonesville, VA; five children, Walter Lawrence Wynn, Jr. and wife, Catherine, Jones Creek; Whitney Salmon and husband, Zack, Pennington Gap; Jacob Wynn, Jonesville; Jessie Wynn Smith and husband, Rick, Kenvir; and Jared Wynn, Jones Creek; and four sisters, Rona Smith and husband, James, Dizney; Valerie Cochran and husband, Jeff, Dizney; Lisa Stewart, Jones Creek; and Mary Garland and husband, Craig, Dione.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, Walter Lincoln, Caroline, Eliza and Samuel Wynn; Dylan, Brookyn, Ashton and Gracelyn Lambert; Maverick, Anna and Eli Smtih; Rylee, Luke and Serenity Wynn; Emma Gilley, Bella, Connor and Caleb Wynn; a host of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Sammie Jo King; a special nephew, Preston "P.J." Stewart; a special cousin, Justin "Jughead" Absher; and many friends, including special friends, Ronnie and Robin Napier.

His visitation will be held Saturday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 3 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Daniel officiating.

Burial will follow in the Wynn Family Cemetery on Jones Creek with Jr. Wynn, Rick Smith, PJ Stewart, Ronnie Napier, Justin Absher and Zack Salmon serving as pallbearers.
