Obituary

Mr. Howard Wayne Skidmore, age seventy-five, of Totz, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Wayne was born on May 26, 1948, in Ages, KY, to Green and Mary Deaton Skidmore. He joined siblings Edith, Francis, Jean, Camillina, Don, Ran, Troy, Elmer, and Kenneth. Wayne was a lifelong Harlan County resident. On May 24, 1997, he married his soul mate, Lisa Ann Coots. He was a coal miner by trade, a hard worker, and worked in the mines for over twenty-three years before retiring.

Wayne was a fun-loving family man, who was full of life. He was a seasoned hunter of small game, but he especially loved hunting turkey; loved it so much that he earned the nickname 'Turkey Man'. He also enjoyed his little garden and while he wasn't the cook, he truly enjoyed the food produced in that garden. The thing Wayne loved most was his God and his family. He was a devoted Christian and a member of the Turner Baptist Church at Verda. He loved his family more than anything, especially his sixteen grandbabies.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Green and Mary Skidmore; a son, Kenny Skidmore; and five siblings: Edith, Francis, Jean, Elmer, and Kenneth.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of twenty-six years, Lisa Skidmore, of Totz; five children: Charles Skidmore and wife, Catherine, of Totz, Kelly Middleton and husband, Mitchell, of WV, Logan Skidmore (Hope) of Totz, April Ely of TN, Dwayne Skidmore and wife, Lisa, of IN; siblings: 'Cam', Don, Ran, and Troy; sixteen grandchildren; as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.

Visitation for Wayne will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023, in the chapel of Harlan Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 3:00. Pastor Jerry Kirby will be officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Boggs Cemetery in Ages, KY. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Harlan Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Wayne Skidmore.
